Summer Fun

We have had such a wonderful week! I had to share a few pictures of our family fun. I signed the kids up for the Summer Reading Program.  The triplets love going to the library, and they LOVE being read to.  Will prefers to go across the hall to the community center, but he likes the library, too.  I am usually able to coax him into the library by taking him directly to the books about sports.
Will passed an exciting milestone, he checked out his own books for the first time without Mom's help! I gave him his library card, he waited in line, gave the librarian his card, and checked out his books by himself while I looked for books for the triplets.  He was very proud of his accomplishment.  He told me he would now like to carry his own wallet with his own library card.
We are also spending a lot of time playing outside in the front and back yard, and at the park.  They cannot get enough of being outside! I am going to need to buy stock in sunblock!

Baptism

When the babies were in the NICU they were baptized with the intention that we would have them formally baptized with the anointing with oil when they were well enough to be home.  We decided it was time, and had all four of our children baptized on Sunday May 29th!  On Saturday night my mom, dad, sister, brother and Uncle travelled to Omaha for the big event. (My Uncle Don, who is my brother's Godfather, is visiting all the way from Santiago, Chili!)
The baptism was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church surrounded by family. It was a great event, followed by a celebration at Mama's Pizza (the kids' favorite restaurant). We are grateful for so many things, but most of all our four healthy children, and loving friends and family. We are so blessed!

Sick Babies and the Spring Sale

It has been kind of a rough week.  Parks was the first to get sick.  He had a fever this weekend and seemed really uncomfortable.  After a trip to the doctor Monday, we discovered that he had a horrible ear infection and had ruptured an ear drum.  Devastating. He quickly recovered with antibiotics and was back to his usual self by Tuesday.  Tuesday, Nora had a fever.  I took her to the doctor where she was diagnosed with croup.  Wednesday....Eva had a fever.  The doctor checked her ears, but she did not have an ear infection. They guessed hers too, was a virus.  Then back to the doctor today with Nora.  She still had a fever and was very lethargic, poor baby.  She started an antibiotic for a sinus infection, and beginning symptoms of pneumonia.  She seems to be feeling better already.  Hopefully, tomorrow they will just call in an antibiotic for Eva so I don't have to make another trip to the doctor!  She doesn't seem to be on the mend yet.
Meanwhile, we have been working fast and furiously to get ready for the semi-annual Omaha Parents of Multiples Spring Sale this Saturday.  It is amazing how many clothes three tiny people can go through in 18 months!  While I sort and tag items, the kids are having a blast attempting to dress themselves (sometimes successfully) in their outgrown garments. They especially love their old Halloween costumes.

After working with all three kiddos undoing everything as I go, I decided to stop, give them baths, and plop them down on the bed to watch Meet the Letters while I worked for a little while.
From left to right Parks, Eva, Nora. Chloe managed to get a leg and her tail in the photo, too.

If you have little ones, the sale is open to everyone, Saturday at UNO Sapp Fieldhouse at 10:00 am.  There will be lots of great deals on toys, equipment, and clothes.  Oh, and Halloween costumes :)

Video Test

This is my first try at putting video on the blog.  I hope it works.  This is a short video of Parks (in the very beginning only) and Eva.  How cute is Eva?!

Maybe She's Born With it, Maybe It's Maybelline

Nora, for whatever reason, thought it was a good idea to sit quietly, while I dressed Parks and Eva, and paint her face with mascara.  This girl is going to be a handful!  When I told her I was going to call her Dad and tell him what she had done, she laughed and grabbed the phone, as if to say, I'll tell Daddy myself.  Stinker!

NICU Follow-up

The babies had their 2nd NICU follow-up appointment on Tuesday. They were tested on many things including speech and language, fine motor skills and gross motor skills. The tests are conducted by child psychologists, physical therapists, and developmental pediatricians, to name a few. We were there from 1:30 until 5:00.

All three did extremely well! They all tested above their age for speech and language. Shockingly, Parks was the biggest talker while we were there. Although he has always had a good vocabulary, he has just recently had a language explosion. I am not sure if it was because he is not shy like the girls, or if he was just waiting for an opportunity to show off, but he was saying words I have never even heard him use before. Eva was also very excited to show off her language skills. Poor Nora who had been sick, went last during the appointment (which was during their nap time). She was very quiet, but still tested above her age for speech, and language.
Their motor skills tests were fun to watch. They had to kick a ball, jump, climb up and down stairs. For the fine motor skills test they had to draw a line on paper with a crayon, and draw a circle. When Parks went in for his test the physical therapist praised him for drawing a 'circle.' Will looked over Park's shoulder and said, "That's not even a circle, that's an oval!" Will has very high expectations for his little brother. Parks beamed and said, "Oval!"

It was a long afternoon, but it was great to see how well they are progressing.

I have posted some pictures of the babies from when they were in the NICU, and now, so you can see how far they have come!
